Over $122,000 given to local high school seniors during the past 9 years
22 graduating high school seniors, representing 11 different Ventura County high schools, each received a check for $1,000 during a breakfast held in their honor on Saturday, June 3rd. The scholarships, awarded by Pacific Oaks Federal Credit Union, were supported by many local businesses. The businesses that contributed to the scholarship included: Ventura Toyota, Gold Coast Broadcasting, Paradise Chevrolet, Parker Brown Inc., Vista Honda, Gold Coast Acura, Magic Auto Center of Oxnard, Local Artist Mona Neuhaus, First American Title, Credit Union Direct Lending, State National and Finegold Insurance.
Employees and credit union members also contributed to the effort.
As always, the competition was stiff. Students were selected based upon a blend of criteria, including: grade point average, number of hours contributed in community service, quality of community service, school involvement, letters of recommendation from counselors, and essay responses. "The entire pool of applicants was simply amazing, and the recipients of the scholarship were the cream of the crop," said Pacific Oaks Federal Credit Union President and CEO, Marianne Blitsch. "These students come from many different backgrounds, hold a vast degree of interests and many have overcome incredible life challenges."
In an effort to reward more of Ventura County’s finest, Pacific Oaks Federal Credit Union welcomes additional sponsors. The credit union has ambitious plans for the scholarship next year; aiming to give even more.
